The name ‘Sila’ derives from an Oscan expression equivalent to the Latin ‘silva’, meaning ‘forest’ or “wood”. The Romans called the area of Sila, including the Serre plateau and Aspromonte, ‘Silva brutia’, from which the current name derives.
